TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS
Mr. Olson is a Law Enforcement Subject Matter Expert, specializing in Weaponry, Firearms Training, and Special Investigations. He retired as a 20-year veteran with the Mesa, Arizona Police Department and has over 32 years in Law Enforcement; 12 years in Minnesota and 20 years in Arizona.
As a Police Officer, he worked uniformed patrol duties in marked and unmarked police units, as a Motorcycle Traffic Enforcement Officer, Special Investigations Division Narcotics/Asset Forfeiture Detective (undercover and plain-clothes duties), Field Training Officer, Crime Scene Officer, and Advanced Training Officer.
Later in his career, Mr. Olson was a Senior Firearms Instructor/Armorer for the Mesa Police Department. He was Lead Instructor with full responsibility for teaching the knowledge and skills required to perform operational duties safely and to manage critical incidents in accordance with organizational policies, law, and codes of practice. These included life-threatening situations.
Mr. Olson also has the proven skills to deal effectively with peers and staff. As Senior Instructor, he was responsible for the development and delivery of Tactical Training, both in the classroom and on the range. He has significant experience and excellent working knowledge of the handling, operation and nomenclature of various firearms and ammunitions and of Range Management practices. He is a qualified Firearms Instructor with experience in teaching, coaching and demonstrating the correct use of firearms including handguns, shotgun, and rifles. Alan is also an AZPOST/National Rifle Association (NRA) Certified Firearms Instructor, AZPOST/NRA Patrol Rifle Instructor, and Arizona Department of Public Service Certified CCW/LEOSA Instructor.
Mr. Olson served as Adjunct Professor, instructing Concealed Carry Weapons, Firearms I, and Firearms II, for Mesa Community College and is proven in courseware design and curricula development and implementation.
